Scout Resources to cover current Region Situation
“No one can have missed the recent news coverage from the Arab Region. The media have focussed on activity in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya but the protests are taking place across the region. Many of us have friends who are directly affected by these events and think of them daily. The Scout Association has sent its best wishes and offers of condolences for those who have gone home during the protests to both the region and individual countries. The Scouts in the region have been very active in providing civil support by providing first aid, distributing food and helping at refugee centres etc. http://scout.org/en/information_events/news/2011/scouts_tunisiens_aident_les_refugies
Obviously all Active Support Unit planned activity in the region is on hold, however we can keep in contact with our friends and share their experiences with others to support them. It is important that Scouts in this country learn more about how these events have arisen and what impact they may have. However, leaders often experience difficulty in addressing these issues, I would encourage Active Support members to use your experiences to help these leaders. To assist anyone wishing to address these issues a few members of the Arab Active Support Unit have developed some training material, a generic document on dealing with Civil and Political Unrest and another which deals directly with the current situation.”
The following PDF's cover information that you can use to discuss with your Groups, Units, Districts and County on the current developments within the Arab Region.
